PRINCE2 or Projects in Controlled Environments is a process based method for effective project management. PRINCE2 Training has now become the most popular project management framework across the globe.
But how did PRINCE2 begin life? Well it all started many years ago when it was simply called PRINCE. This was a method which the UK government employed in order to manage government IT projects. However, during the 1990′s it was realised that the tools PRINCE uses in order to manage IT projects, could also be used for the management of any project. So, a decision was made that PRINCE would be rewritten in order to take the IT terminology out and replace it with language which can be used for absolutely any project. Therefore the new and improved PRINCE2 was released in 1996.
However, the importance of PRINCE2 was not realised until a few years later and by 2011, over 800,000 people had sat the PRINCE2 examination worldwide! However this is fast growing as employers and businesses have realised the benefits of PRINCE2 to their company.
But what exactly do you learn when you take the PRINCE2 training course? Well, there are 7 main principles in which everything else in PRINCE2 relies upon. These principles are universal, so can be applied across the board to any project which is being managed by any company. There are also 7 ‘themes’ in PRINCE2; Business Case, Organization, Quality, Risk, Plans, Change and Progress. These are all topics which need to be addressed and thought about thoroughly throughout each project which is being undertaken.
There are also 7 processes in PRINCE2 training, each process contains several activities which must be performed. Each process or activity needs to be performed at different times during the project in order for the project to be a success.
But, how can learning PRINCE2 help a company or organisation? Well it’s quite simple really. Well, it promises a successful and logical approach to all projects. It does this by providing a clear cut organised, start, middle and end to a project or assignment therefore providing structure. PRINCE2 methodology also provides a good set of communication channels between the project, project management and the rest of the organisation.
Not only this but if you were to take the PRINCE2 examination it opens up a lot of doors for you personally. Thus it is an asset to your CV, as it is recognised globally as a world class, international product which has become the standard methodology for project management.
So, now that you understand what PRINCE2 is and how it can benefit you, are you tempted to sign yourself up for the course? Go on, do it!
